WRDC Identity Card
Provider WMO
Parameters
Covered area worldwide
Covered period 1964 - 1993 => NREL
1993 - onward => WRDC (still actualized)
Source - spatial resol.
Temporal resolution monthly
Pay / free free
Standard Data File
PVsyst compatible yes: help pvsyst5 p 122
Link NREL (64-93)
WRDC (94-onward)

Additional Comments:

Worldwide network of WMO ground stations.
The access to the WRDC data is provided by NREL for the data between 1964 to 1993. Since 1994, the access to the data is granted by WRDC (St Petersbourg) itself. The inscription is free, and a login and a password is delivered for you to access the data. However, as no simple interface has been developed to retrieve the data, the access to the data is intricate.

METEONORM Identity Card
Type of source Software (version 6.1, 2009. The version 7 will be available in the first semester 2012)
Provider METEOTEST
Parameters hourly and one minute data: synthetic generation from the monthly values using a stochastic model. The resulting time series correspond to "typical years" used for system design.
Typical Meteorological Years of:
  • temperature,
  • wind velocity,
  • solar azimuth and elevation,
  • global, diffuse and beam (direct normal) radiation as well as radiation on inclined planes
  • longwave radiation
  • luminance
  • spectral UVA/UVB,
  • erythemal radiation
  • precipitation, driving rain
  • humidity parameters (dewpoint, relative humidity, mixing ratio, psychrometric temperature)
Meteonorm calculates reduced global radiation caused by a high horizon. The horizon line can easily be entered either graphically (drag line) or numerically. For most regions of the world, the horizon line is calculated automatically, based on a digital terrain mode (accessible over the internet).
Covered area Worldwide
Ground station data info Monthly data from 1700 ground stations (interpolations)
irradiations: 1960 - 1991
temperatures: 1995 - 2005
Temporal resolution monthly (averaged) / hourly (synthetic)
Pay / free pay
PVsyst compatible yes: help pvsyst5 p 117 - import direct by (.dat) file

Additional Comments:

They have a database of ground station data values, but it is not available for the public. They only provide typical mean year values which stem from this database.
